The park was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

Mt. Mt. Pumori at 7,161 m /23,494 ft, located around the upper Khumbu area of the Sagarmatha zone at 28 00 53 Latitude and 86 49 41 Longitude which straddles the northern border and barrier between Nepal / Tibet.Mt. Pumori is clearly visible from the Tibet side also on route Rongbuk and North Face of Everest.

The southern face of Nepal, lies on north mid-east Himalayan range close to Mt. Everest, trek to reach Pumori base camp is on the same route to Everest base camp on the popular and highly trekked trail, a little further from Gorakshep route diverts from the main trail to Everest base camp, as the walk leads above boulders, rocks, and moraine at Pumori base camp, this mountain lies close to the famous and popular viewpoints from Kalapathar top at 5,545 meters, which is above Gorakshep.

The climb requires a minimum of a week duration from the base camp, interesting to know from the past history of the mid-1990s, the late famed Sungdari Sherpa and his Sherpa colleague climbed this mountain, in less than 8 hours, the fastest record so far. Mt. Pumori base camp from this normal route is based at the foot of near Kalapatthar and on the small glacial pond on the rocky moraine part of Khumbu glacier.

Our Climbing route from South East to reach the summit, the Southern Face of Pumori, with more ice and rocks in some sections of the climb, Mt. Pumori is covered in a thick blanket of snow from the base to the summit, the South Face of Mt. Pumori from Gorakshep and Kalapatthar looks as dome-shaped. The climb is done after a complete rest day and acclimatization with a visit to Everest base camp and the viewpoint of Kalapathar which helps to plan this climb.

This wonderful adventure Mt. Pumori Expeditions with Trexmount Ventures starts with a sweeping short scenic flight to Lukla at 2,820 meters high, the gateway to Upper Khumbu and the Everest area, where all trek and mountaineering and climb around Everest begins and concludes at Lukla, a popular place with a unique airstrip in whole Himalaya. From Lukla walk follows the Dudh Kosi River all the way to its source higher up, passing nice neat villages of Choplung, Ghat, and Phakding and heading higher through the cool shade of forest lined with tall rhododendron, pines, firs, and oak trees overlooking views of snow-capped mountains.

After a good walk reaching Monjo village and Sagarmatha National Park entrance where all TIMS / Park and climbing permits are checked and recorded of all foreign trekkers, from here cross a few bridges and leaving the last village of Jorsalle walking on the river bed and then a climb for few hours with superb views of peaks along the walk and then reaching the famous Namche Bazaar where the colorful houses serving as hotels and lodge are in U and amphitheater shape.

At Namche which is a famous large village, and popular among trekkers as it is located on the trail coming from both ways, Namche Bazaar holds a busy Saturday market every week, the only place here with ATM, Banks, Post Office, Cyber, with numerous shops, delightful restaurants and bakeries.

After two nights here with an acclimatization day, a walk leads higher to another scenic place at Tengboche Monastery in the midst of a forest setting with awesome views of snow-capped peaks including Mt. Everest and the majestic Amadablam, here with time to visit this interesting wonderful looking monastery, after Tengboche leaving the tree lines and lush vegetation for arid and barren terrain heading towards beautiful Imjatse valley with great views along the way, walk leads higher up to Gorakshep after Lobuche.

From Gorakshep at 5,180 m-16,995 ft where the actual route to Everest Base Camp and to Kalapathar starts and ends, located beneath towering Mt. Pumori and Kalapathar rocky hill, which was an early Everest base camp till the 1970s.

After a nice rest head towards our main destination of this trip to Pumori base camp after a visit to Everest base camp, walk on rocky moraines and ice to reach beneath the giant Pumori at a mere distance from Mt. Everest base camp with amazing views of surrounding high mountains Lhotse, Nuptse, Lho-la, Lingtrin, Pumori and the tumbling long Khumbu Ice Fall which lies close to base camp.

From here with a great experience of mountaineering and climb of Mt. Pumori and feeling high, return back to Gorakshep and on the same route all the way to Lukla for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu in the hustle and bustle of city life, after a wonderful and remarkable adventure with great service of Treksa Holidays with its friendly staff and guides.

Itinerary

01Day

Arrival in Kathmandu .

Arrival in Kathmandu received by our Representative and transfer to hotel.

02-03Day

Kathmandu free day.

Kathmandu free day for trek preparations or Sightseeing tour on your interest, pay locally for sightseeing. and to purchase necessary last minute shopping for climbing equipment, while our guide and management will obtain climbing permits for Mt. Pumori Expedition.

04Day

Fly to Lukla 2,886m-9,468 ft & trek to Phakding 2,640m-8,661 ft - 04 hrs.

Early morning depart from the hotel for the flight to Lukla on reaching Kathmandu domestic airport board in a small plane Dornier or Twin Otter, flight offers great views array of snow capped peaks with Mt. Everest as the plane touches down after 30 minutes of scenic flight to Lukla, a unique airstrip with a runway with uphill slope, Lukla airport at present named after legendry climber Tenzing & Hillary Airport. After a time here for a while then start the walk to Phakding for overnight stop, the trek passes several villages and farm lands with great scenery of hills and valleys then finally reaching at Phakding village located by the Dudh Kosi (river).

05Day

Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m-11,286 ft - 06 hrs.

After the first day walk, today the trek could be long as heads uphill at above 3,440 meters high at Namche Bazaar, starting the morning walk crossing few time over the Dudh Koshi, and then reaching at an entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. After checking the Park & Trekking tickets and permits, further walk leads on the bank of the river, then after the last high bridge an uphill walk for few hours all the way to Namche Bazaar, here we will have two nights in this large prosperous trading town –village as well the main centre and capital of Khumbu area with facilities of ATMs, Cyber cafes, stores, shops, restaurants, banks and fresh bakery with busy colorful interesting Saturday market.

06Day

Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization.

An ideal and perfect place for rest day for acclimatization, at Namche take a short hike up to park museum which houses great range of information from mountaineering, flora – fauna and Sherpa culture and religions, this scenic spot offers a grand panorama of high snow capped mountains including Mt. Everest and stunning Ama Dablam, other options hike to Everest View Hotel for another beautiful views of the surrounding mountains above old Syangboche air strip. For energetic people can take a walk of few hours visiting the sleepy Khumjung and Khunde located on a glacial valley beneath the majestic holy peak of Khumbila the patron god of Khumbu.

07Day

Trek to Tengboche 3,867 m-12,687 ft - 05hrs.

After a good rest and acclimatization, morning starts walking along a gradual winding wider nice path, maintained by old Sherpa man since last 2 decades doing it voluntarily for goodwill to mankind with small funds and donation from the trekkers passing on this route, walk gets better through conifer and rhododendron woodland, with the striking views of Ama Dablam, the walk further offers striking views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamarserku and Kwangde peak, then the path descends towards Imjatse river at Phunge Tenga, after a rest here on the uphill path through a nice serene forest to reach at Tengboche Monastery. A scenic spot with awesome views of Ama Dablam, Kangtenga, Thamserku, Kwangde and Mt. Everest, this place is also a holy spot as the head lama (Rinpoche) of the monastery resides here. In this monastery, mountaineers take blessing from the high lama priest for better success and safe expedition.

08Day

Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m-13,976 ft - 05 hrs.

With glorious morning views, morning walk leads to a long descend to Imjatse rive passing a small place of Debuche, walking into beautiful birch-rhododendron and pines forest, on reaching the strong steel bridge where the tree lines vanish for smaller juniper and rhododendron bushes, after the bridge a slow climb to reach at Pangboche the last permanent village, beyond are settlement with lodges to serve the trekkers. The trail leads slowly through exposed landscapes with excellent view of Amadablam at close distance, and then stopping for lunch break at Shomare popular spot for lunch and short break, after lunch on the gentle uphill for few hours and then climb after the bridge for short while to reach at Dingboche located in the wonderful Imjatse valley, after a nice pleasant trek walk of the day.

09Day

Rest at Dingboche for acclimatization with short hike.

A pleasant and scenic place for another rest day at Dingboche, which is important before heading much higher area towards Lobuche and base camp, here take a short hike to the high hills above Dingboche offers great views of surrounding snow capped peaks with North Face of Amadablam soars high above Imjatse valley, views of Island / Imjatse peak and as far to world 5th highest Mt. Makalu towards further east behind Peak 29.
Enjoy the afternoon relaxing or take a walk, here assist to Cyber in one of its many lodges around.

10Day

Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m-16,175 ft - 05 hrs.

On leaving Dingboche, taking an uphill path to reach at a ridge festooned with prayer flags and stupas, with excellent views of the valley and snow capped peaks, walk is gentle on the slow uphill slope all the way to Thugla for lunch a small place where the Khumbu glacier melts into a raging icy river, here the trail from Pheriche and Dingboche meets, here with stunning view of Taboche, Cholatse, Lobuche, Pumori, Ama Dablam, afternoon an hour to a ridge with many memorials of the late climbers both foreigners and Nepalese mountaineers. From here a pleasant walk but catching slight of altitude as it leads to Lobuche for overnight stop.

11Day

Trek to Gorakshep 5,170 m-16,962 ft and hike up to Kalapathar 5,545 m-18,192 ft.

Walk this morning reaching a path close to Glass Pyramid house, a metrological station funded and run by Nepalese and Italian scientists, from this spot a small steep climb reaching at Khumbu glacier, as the walk leads through over moraine of rocks and small icy streams to reach at Gorakshep with views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest. After a break here trek and climb on a steep uphill to Kalapatthar for stunning panorama view of Mt. Everest with array of surroundings peaks, this will be the highest point of this great adventure at 5,545 m, after a thrilling and breathe taking scenery, downhill walk to Gorakshep.

12Day

Trek to Pumori Base Camp at 5,400 m-17,717 ft, after Everest Base Camp.

Walk to Everest Base Camp along the moraine and ice, on reaching at Everest Base Camp after a tiring but exciting walk, enjoy the break overlooking tip of Everest with tumbling Khumbu ice falls close to base camp, around high season for expeditions, this place will be flooded with climbers and camping staff with hundreds of tents. After a great moment return journey on the off trail leading to a climb on rocks and boulders and walking on the dunes of scree then reaching at Pumori base camp after three hours of good climb.

13Day

At Pumori Base Camp rest day.

A rest day to get organized for the climb and final preparations, our guide and leader provides information regarding skill, technical difficulty and technique for the climb to the summit of Pumori with time to hike around for acclamatsation and to scout the route as well.

14-28Day

Ascent of Mt. Pumori 7,161 m / 23,494 ft.

Trexmount Ventures allocates these days for the final summit bid of  Mt. Pumori, with a week time all should be physically fit and getting busy to make the trail and route to the summit, here our climbing guide will do all necessary job in assisting the group, packing and reloading the gear to further next high camps, probably 2 more camps will be adequate after base camp for the final bid to the summit. Our Sherpa guides with high altitude porters will ferry the necessary gear to the high camps, and assist in fixing ropes where necessary and making the best possible routes for the great climb to the summit of Pumori. It is hard to predict exact day for the summit bid during these 08 days itinerary for the climb. While our guide and team member will make the route and fix ropes and carrying loads up to next camps. Route description as follows, from Base Camp following an old grassy moraine ridges roughly westwards to a broad saddle near an icy frozen pond, which is directly below the ridge of Kalapathar. From the pond turn north and climb up rocky ground and finally through boulders to the ridge below Pt. 6,330 which is the site of camp I. Space for only few tents platforms.

From Camp I: Cross a rocky bowl (tricky if snow covered) until below two rock fingers, then move on to a ridge proper. Climbing the ridge involves rock and ice climbing of severe standard with step

Camp II: is on the last section at the edge from the summit on snow slopes which provides one of the hardest pitches on the climb at near 6, 540 meters high, and then following a ridge to a crevasse of upper face, offering another good resting site for Camp II. Starting at the crack of dawn, climbing a snow and ice slope to reach the final ascent to Pumori summit top at 7,161 m / 23,494ft high. A super panorama! After a great and successful time climbing Pumori, all party need to be back at base camp by Day 21-22, at this point the porters will arrive for our walk out to Lukla.

29Day

Back at Base Camp.

An extra day to re-organize camping and climbing equipment, clean up the rubbish, picking up everything that has been brought leaving nothing except foot prints behind, collected rubbish to bring it back and to be handed to SPCC (Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee) or to bring back to Kathmandu this is important to collect the garbage deposit money back.

30Day

Trek to Pheriche 4, 240 m-13,910 ft - 05 hrs.

Getting up early morning, and then continue return journey all the way to Thugla through Lobuche and finally ending the walk at Pheriche valley for overnight stop. Pheriche a nice settlement just near to Dingboche over the hill towards east, this place with many good lodges with HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association) medical post with superb views of Taboche, Cholatse, Ama Dablam.

31Day

Trek to Tengboche 3,867 m-12,687 ft - 05 hrs.

After Pheriche a pleasant walk with few ups to encounter on the route to Tengboche, the path leads downhill much of the way through Pangboche village on reaching the bridge with a climb into the wooded area to Tengboche for overnight stop.

32Day

Trek to Monjo 2,880 m-9,448 ft through Namche Bazaar 3,440m-11,286 ft- 06 hrs.

Morning walk begins with a descend to Imjatse River at Phungetenga, after crossing the bridge a steep uphill for an hour then on the gentle winding trail all the way to Namche Bazaar, after a nice refreshing break at Namche journey continues following downhill path all the way to Dudh Kosi River valley, from here with short ups and downs reaching at Sagarmatha National Park entrance and then to Monjo village for overnight stop in this lovely small village.

33Day

Trek to Lukla 2,860 m-9,383 ft - 05 hrs.

Flight to Kathmandu

At Lukla the flight operates from early morning to Kathmandu, sometimes the flight time can get delayed due to unfavorable and bad weather, as per the flight time board in a small Dornier or Twin Otter plane for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu, on reaching at Katmandu domestic terminal Trexmount Ventures staff transfer you back to respective hotels in the heart of Kathmandu around Thamel area.
