Tamang Heritage Trekking is one of the scenic destinations around the Langtang and Ganesh Himalaya region. It offers outstanding sights of beautiful mountains from Annapurna I (8,091 m-26,54 5ft), Annapurna South (7,219 m-23,694 ft), 08th highest Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m-26,781 f), Ganesh Himal (7,405 m-24,295 ft), On the central horizon, behold Langtang Lirung (7,234 m-23,734 ft), Ghengu Liru ,Langtang II (6571 m-21,558 ft), Kimshun (6,745 m-22,129 ft) and beyond see Jugal Himal, terminating in Dorje Lakpa (6,980 m-22,900 ft). To the east view the upper meadows of the Langtang ending in a massive mountain wall, forming the frontier with world’s last 14th highest MT. Shishapangma (8,013 m-26,289 ft) in Tibet. We will visit the traditional hill villages in the land of the Tamang people, their culture and living are another highlight. Tamang people have roots from Tibet and as far to Mongolia. They have an impressive Buddhist culture and religion which similar to Tibetans across the border.
This fascinating trek journey is designed to Experience the life of Tamang people & its society in lovely nature. This people are an ancient tribe spread out around south, east, mid-west to northern part of Nepal. Mostly they are concentrated around the rim of Kathmandu valley and in Langtang area. The Tamang people find their origin in the Tibeto-Burman tribe from Mongolia and Tibet. They have a rich cultural heritage and traditions which are similar to Sherpa tribes of Ninapa sect Tibetan Buddhist.
Tamang Heritage Trekking starts from Syabrubesi and concludes at Dhunche. Walk to high mid green hills villages inhabited by the Tamang tribes, traditionally a farmer and cattle herders and renown bow as guides, porters and mountaineers. Some Tamang are known as Gorkha soldiers in the British and Indian armies. This journey leads through an enchanting forest of rhododendron, oaks, pines and fir tree. This forested area is the home for Red Panda and other rare wildlife.
We will traverse a beautiful trekking trail to a high terrain then into a gorge with a forested area in great contrast to the high snow capped peaks. in the background During the walk, experience superb views – from Annapurna and Manaslu peaks in the far west with the massive range of Ganesh Himal and the centrally located Langtang Lirung and Langtang Ri with Jugal Himal towards western range. After a marvelous time in the high hills and valleys, head back to Kathmandu via an alternative route.
Our representative will come to the airport for transfer to the Hotel. After some refreshment in the hotel, Our Tour leader will conduct a pre- departure meeting in the Hotel or at our office. After morning breakfast, free day for trek preparation. OR, do a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley visiting fascinating heritage and cultural sites. There are few places that are worth to visit such as holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Durbar Square ( One is in Kathmandu, in Patan and also in Bhaktapur), Museum, monasteries, old historical Palaces and Gardens. Note: this tour is optional so you can visit with place of your interest & pay locally. (Meals: B)
We begin our wonderful trek on the Tamang Heritage Trail with a scenic drive to Syabrubesi village. Head north through rural towns and farm villages on a winding hilly road with ups and downs to Trisuli Bazaar, a warm tropical climate area. Drive toward a cooler region at entrance of Langtang National Park in Dhunche (1,965 m-6,446 ft). Dhunche is the headquarters for the Langtang and Rasuwa districts. This trek ends here after a week’s time. Walk on a downhill, winding road to reach the first overnight stop in Syabrubesi village. Syabrubesi is quite large with many lodges and shops. Many of the houses have been destroyed from the earthquake of April 25, 2015. (Meals:B,L,D)
After a 1st night in local, simple lodge, the morning walk starts on a gradual winding uphill path that follows yet avoids the main road. The path is an old walking trail to Goljung village. Take-in grand views of massive Ganesh and Langtang Himal. Take a pleasant walk with few ups and downs to reach a large Tamang village, Gatlang, for an overnight stop. Simple accommodations are in homely fine Home Stay cottage and huts.
At Gatlang village be welcomed with a strong smile and Khada (silk scarf) of Buddhist religious traditions. In the afternoon, visit the old monastery and explore the village and interact with the locals. (Meals:B,L,D)
Having experienced Gatlang with its warm homely hospitality, the morning walk starts with a short descent near the recently constructed Chilime Hydropower project at River Chilime. Cross a suspension bridge over Chilime River which flows from Tibet. Make an uphill walk for few hours to Tatopani village for an overnight stop. Tatopani means hot water. This village offers pure natural hot springs. In the afternoon, with ample time, take a dip in the hot spring pool which is refreshing and many belief that it cures many diseases. (Meals:B,L,D)
After a refreshing time at Tatopani with superb views of Ganesh Himal, walk begins with a climb into thick rhododendron, pines, magnolia and oaks tree lines forested area to reach Nagthali Danda. Nagthali Danda offers a fabulous view point offering a panorama of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal and array of adjoining peaks. After a nice rest with all the views, head downhill to the next overnight stop at Thuman village, which is another nice typical Tamang village with full of farm life and old culture. (Meals:B,L,D)
From Thuman village, morning walk starts with a downhill to Upper Trisuli River close to the trail that leads to Tibet towards North. Upon crossing a river, make a long descent to reach overnight stop at Briddim. This is another nice farm village with an old monastery. With time in the afternoon, visit the monastery which treasures many historical artifacts along with a tall statue of Sakyamuni Buddha and of Guru Ringboche “Padmasamba” and then explore the village of Briddim. After Briddim village having had a great and interesting time, walk downhill back to Trisuli River. After passing Khangjim village and close to Syabrubesi village, start a three hour climb to reach a gradual path passing a few farm fields and scattered villages. Reach River Side Lodge located on the junction to Thulo Syabru and trail to Langtang valley for our overnight stop at a small place of Bamboo in the middle of bamboo forest. (Meals:B,L,D)
From this small nice place close to the raging river, our return journey is via an alternate route with nice views. Pass small areas with few tea houses and through farm terraces of millet, corn and wheat depending upon the season. Upon leaving the farm area, walk uphill on the old landslide sections. The trail winds up to Upper or Thulo Syabru for an overnight stop in a nice homely type lodge. The houses around here are linked in a row like a locomotive. This village has with an old monastery above the village. (Meals:B,L,D)
After Thulo Syabru, make a steep climb into an enchanting, beautiful forest of rhododendron, pines, hemlocks trees with superb views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu mountains towards north west as well as of Langtang Lirung. Reach a level path with views of Dhunche down below. Slowly walk up a gentle hill on a gradual path to Shing Gompa for an overnight stop. This area is also called Chandanbari.
This small settlement has about ten lodges and a small cheese factory located high on route between Gosainkund and Dhunche. At the top stands an old monastery. (Meals:B,L,D)
Today, last day walk of this wonderful trip, start a long descent through a beautiful rhododendron and pine forest with fabulous views of surrounding landscapes and mountains. Three hours later reach at the bottom of this hill near the river. Cross the bridge. Reach the main road that winds up for an hour all the way to Dhunche for an overnight stop, last day in the high hills of Langtang Himal. (Meals:B,L,D)
Morning after breakfast, have an interesting drive back to Kathmandu. The drive presents great views of Himalayan landscapes, rolling hills and valleys, passing many villages and towns on the downhill road to Kathmandu.
After an interesting drive of six hours reach Kathmandu having had an enjoyable trek to Magnificent Langtang Valley. (Meals:B,L)
