Your Langatang budget will increase by US$25 per day if you hire a guide. If you’re a group of four, one guide can be shared by multiple persons for US$6 per person daily.

Bus tickets cost NPR 800/US$6 per person one way and NPR 1600/US$12 return from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. It will be more expensive if you drive a Jeep.

The price of lodging

If you dine at your guesthouse while trekking the Langtang, lodging is affordable. The cost of the rooms increases if you don’t eat there. During peak season, a double room costs NPR 500 (US$4); if you are traveling alone, the cost is frequently halved. If you buy food there, you can stay for free during the off-season.

How long is the Langtang trek?

The Kyanjin Ri summit is included in the 77 km/48 mi Langtang trek. The course takes an average of 5 to 7 days to finish. You can extend the route by adding side hikes, which will increase your overall mileage. Your journey will increase by about 8 kilometers if you choose to walk from Kyanjin Gompa to Tserko Ri Peak.

How difficult is the Langtang trek?

Due to the height gain, you will climb nearly 2000 meters in the first two days of the walk—and the numerous long, steep ascents throughout the route, the trek may be rather taxing. Nevertheless, it’s one of the more accessible hiking paths in Nepal and a fantastic choice for those who have never gone on a high-altitude expedition. 

The elevation is the main reason I thought the Langtang hike would be a simpler alternative. The trek’s highest point is 3,800 meters (or 4,600 meters if you ascend Kyanjin Ri summit), far lower than most other well-known routes, such as the Mardi Himal and Annapurna Base Camp treks.

Do I need a guide for the trek?

  • It’s hard to say. Yes, based on official information. For anyone traveling from outside Nepal to hike, a guide is required. As of August 2023, several hikers and locals in the area claim that the new restriction hasn’t been put into effect. That indicates that you can still hike the Langtang without a guide.
  • You can always go to Syabrubesi if you don’t want to go with a guide, and if you can’t walk alone, try to locate a guide there.
  • Rather than hiring a guide, you can take a tour in a small group. Joining a group tour has the following benefits:
  • There are no concerns regarding permissions, lodging, transportation, etc. You have everything set up for you.
  • Your route does not need to be planned.
  • There are more opportunities for you to converse with locals because not all of them speak fluent English.
