Trexmount Ventures welcomes you to join in our remarkable and fascinating Tibet Overland Extension, where you can experience a journey of a life time, with views of Mt. Chomolungma (Everest), and several other well-known peaks Mt. Cho Oyu to Shispangma area on the world’s highest and largest plateau of Tibet.tibet overland extension

Adventure Tibet Overland and on route to Lhasa and on flights back offers breathe taking views of worlds high mountains of Everest (8,848m / 29, 029ft) Lhotse (8,516 m-27,940 ft), Nuptse (7,855m-25,770 ft)  Lho – La (6,036 m -19,803ft) Cho-Oyu (8,201 m / 26,906 ft) 14th highest Mt. Shispangma (8,013 m / 26,289 ft) and as far world’s 5th highest Mt. Makalu (8,463 m / 27, 766 ft) and many other adjoining smaller unnamed peaks.

Adventure Tibet Overland  with Trexmount Ventures starts with an interesting drive towards east of Kathmandu on the Lhasa / Kathmandu highway leading towards the frontier town of Zhangmu in Tibet / China side, from here to Nylam town, where the barren, windswept world’s highest and largest plateau starts.

Overland Journey continues on the main Lhasa / Kathmandu or Friendship highway leading to several high passes of over 5,000 meters Laylung -la, and Gyatso-la at 5,220 m-17,126 ft, the highest point of this awesome trip ‘Adventure to Tibet Overland’ takes to Tibet’s 2nd biggest city of Shigatse after Lhasa, here tour of magnificent Tashilumpo monastery seat of his holiness Panchen Lamas and visiting the local market observing the simple and impressive daily life of Tibetans. Drive then leads towards Gyntse city with tour of Kumbum terracotta stupa and Dzong (Fort) and then on the picturesque highway to Lhasa driving past Simi-la and Karo la pass with outstanding views of Nozung Khangsa peak and its glaciers next to the road side, drive passes through many nomads Yak / sheep herders camps and reaching at beautiful large emerald Turquoise Yamdrok Lake.

Journey continues leading to the last scenic pass of Khamba-la at 4,800 meters high with tremendous views of Tibetan landscapes and snow capped peaks and then heading to our main destination in Lhasa.

Lhasa at present a mixture of old and modern city, our hotels are located in the old part of Lhasa around Barkor market square, the hub of Lhasa where you can observe the old culture, Buddhist pilgrims, and religious way of life with impressive customs of Tibetans from various parts of Tibet.

In Lhasa with two more nights ample visiting famous and old interesting places of interest monasteries, monuments and market place including the Potala Palace which stand high majestically on top of red hill, overlooking the beautiful Kyuichi valley where Lhasa city located.

After visiting old Drefung monastery the largest in Lhasa, Sera monastery to observe young monks in debate which is interesting to watch, the Jorkang Temple in the middle of Barkor square, time permitting the summer palace of Dalai Lama at Norbu Linka with nice immaculate garden.

In Lhasa enjoying the tour with Tibetans food and lifestyle, this trip Adventure to Tibet Overland concludes with a sweeping scenic flight of an hour back to Kathmandu, during the flight in China Air, super views array of snow capped peaks includes Mt. Everest at mere distance as the plane fly over and then touching down at Kathmandu international airport, where our Trexmount Ventures guide will transfer you back to respective hotels after an awesome Tibet Overland Extension.

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

  • Day 02: In Kathmandu with cultural tour at places of interest.

  • Day 03: Drive to Nylam 3, 630 m-11,909 ft after Zhangmu 2,300m-7,545 ft -07 hrs (153 Kms).

  • Day 04: Drive to Shegar (Xegar) 4,430 m-14,534 ft via Old Tingri 4,300 m-14,108 ft - 05 hrs (195 Kms).

  • Day 05: Drive to Shigatse (Xigatse) 3,900 m-12,795 ft - 05 hrs ( 230 kms).

  • Day 06: Drive to Gyantse 3,950 m-12,959 ft - 03 hrs (90 kms)

  • Day 07: Drive to Lhasa 3,660 m-12,008 ft - 05 hrs (261 kms).

  • Day 08-09: In Lhasa tour of Potala Palace and other places of interest.

  • Day 10: Drive to Lhasa Airport and fly to Kathmandu.

Detail Itinerary


  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

    Our representative will come to the airport for transfer to the Hotel. After some refreshment in the hotel, Our Tour leader will make pre departure meeting in the Hotel or at our office. The meetings will covers trip related information’s & collecting your Documents (passport copy, 2 passport size photos, Travel insurance).

  • Day 02: In Kathmandu with cultural tour at places of interest.

    Morning after breakfast as time set for the sightseeing tour, our city guide will lead you for few hours in our fascinating heritage and cultural tour around places of interest, tour of holy Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) & monasteries, old historical Palaces, courtyard; and then back to hotel after the wonderful tour, afternoon free for individual activities and preparation for journey to Tibet.

  • Day 03: Drive to Nylam 3, 630 m-11,909 ft after Zhangmu 2,300m-7,545 ft -07 hrs (153 Kms).

    Early morning heading towards Kodari on the Kathmandu / Lhasa Friendship highway, after necessary visa formalities at Nepal border in Kodari and across the Friendship Bridge into Tibet a Zhangmu, where our Tibetan guide from our Tibet agent will receive with necessary papers for the entry into Tibet soil.

    From here another 2 hours drive leading in a gorge following the Bhote Kosi River upstream through beautiful woodlands and waterfalls, and then climb up on the winding road to Nylam town for overnight and first night in Tibet.

    Overnight in a guesthouse or lodge and having meals across the road restaurant where there are Chinese, Nepali and Tibetan foods can be found.

  • Day 04: Drive to Shegar (Xegar) 4,430 m-14,534 ft via Old Tingri 4,300 m-14,108 ft - 05 hrs (195 Kms).

    Morning after breakfast at Nylam, drive continues which will be shorter than other day but much higher elevation, leading past Tibetan villages and farms with Yaks, Sheep and goats grazing over the yonder. After an hour drive climbs to Laylung – la at 5,050 meters high pass with super panorama of mountains towards south, looking at Numbur, Gaurishanker, Melung tse, massive bulk of Mt. Shisapangma (last 14th world highest mountain) Dorji Lakpa with Langtang range all these peaks bordering with Nepal / Tibet. Drive continues on a pleasant highway coming to a roadside town of Old Tingri with super views of Mt. Everest and of Mt. Cho-Oyu, after a break here probably for lunch and then 2 hours of good drive brings at Shegar also called as New Tingri which is quite high and windy in afternoon, here just rest and relax in this high elevation.

  • Day 05: Drive to Shigatse (Xigatse) 3,900 m-12,795 ft - 05 hrs ( 230 kms).

    Our journey today takes us to the highest pass of this journey, as the morning drive leads up at Gyatshola Pass, 5,220 m. From here drive descends to Lhatse town situated on route Mt. Kailash, a small town but slowly emerging into a city, from here ride towards Shigatse; time permitting visit Sakya monastery which is about an hour drive including tour of old Sakya monastery. The drive is nice on a good road leading to the second largest city in Tibet, after Lhasa honored by famous Tashilumpo Monastery; the seat of Panchen Lama.  On reaching Shigatse check into hotel and with time for short walk around the market of Shigatse.

    The most interesting places is Tashilumpo monastic complex and the ruined fortress which dominates the city’s skyline. A high wall surrounds the red and gold buildings which make up the Tashilumpo Monastery. The route around the wall circumambulates the monastery which also includes small shrines, significant rock inscriptions and many prayer wheels. A visit to the market concludes our stay at Shigatse.

  • Day 06: Drive to Gyantse 3,950 m-12,959 ft - 03 hrs (90 kms)

    Today, drive will be short to Gyantse city, if not visited Tashilumpo monastic complex, morning after breakfast tour of Tashilumpo Monastery before heading towards east to Gyantse, drive is just for 2-3 hours, on reaching Gyantse a small bustling town steeped in history. Located 261 kms to south-west of Lhasa, and later became the main centre for trade with British India, here tour of Khumbum Chorten, which was built around 1400 AD.

  • Day 07: Drive to Lhasa 3,660 m-12,008 ft - 05 hrs (261 kms).

    Morning drive to Lhasa, leading on the vast Tibetan plateau crossing over Karo- La Pass 5,010m, with stunning views of Nzongkhansa peak which is over 7,000 meters and the icefall, glacier can be seen just next to the road side, around here settlement of Drokpa (nomads) with Yaks grazing around the grassy meadow, as the ride continues reaching the beautiful turquoise Yamdrok Tsho Lake, from here drive climbs over Kamba- La Pass 4,795 m with great panorama of Tibetan plateau and of snow capped peaks. Journey descends on a zig zag road reaching at Bhramaputra River which flows from Mt. Kailash, after crossing a bridge on the newly built highway which links Lhasa airport of Gongor, and then an hour drive brings at our main destination in Lhasa. Lhasa city a mixture of old and new, our hotels situated in the old parts of east Lhasa around Barkor market square, which is the hub of Lhasa, where one can observe the Tibetans from all part of Tibet with their colorful costumes and deep root in Tibetan Buddhism.

  • Day 08-09: In Lhasa tour of Potala Palace and other places of interest.

    Here in Lhasa with two days of interesting tour, the visit around monastery Drefung monastery, which is one of the largest and oldest monastic complex, in olden days over 7,000 monks, priest used to reside, at present about 200 -300 monks, Dalai Lama used to reside here, before Potala Palace was built. Drefung means heap of rice, as this building washed with white lime paints perched on a hill top above Lhasa or Kyuchi valley.

    Afternoon visit Sera Monastery, one of the most important and old monastery of Tibet as well a school for Tibetan Buddhism, interesting to watch young monks in heavy debate, from here  visit Jorkhang Temple is another interesting place as it boasts a lot of historic importance and tales of old days. Conclude the day tour visiting Barkor Market square.

    Next morning tour of Potala Palace, originally built during 640 A.D, the 13 storied palace stands at 117.19m high with 1000 rooms, visitors are allowed only 10 -12 main and important rooms and shrines. Afternoon visit Norbu Linka a summer palace of most resent Dalai Lamas, which is quite modern with immaculate garden, after an enjoyable time afternoon free at leisure for last minute shopping souvenirs.

  • Day 10: Drive to Lhasa Airport and fly to Kathmandu.

    After breakfast, early morning we drive for an hour to Gongar (Lhasa) Airport,  on the newly built highway leading through few long tunnels, on reaching at Gongor airport terminal, farewell to our ever cheerful Tibetan guide and drivers and then make way for a scenic flight to Kathmandu with panoramic views of high Himalayas including the soaring Mt. Everest. Upon arrival our staff will transfer you to respective hotels, with afternoon free for individual activities.

  • Day 11: Departure

    Today, last day in Nepal with great memories of Adventure Tibet Overland with amazing experience transfer to Tribhuvan International airport for final departure towards homeward bound or to next port of call.
