Full of excitement throughout this trip from traditional remote impressive villages, green lovely forested area, picturesque landscapes and mountains are the main attraction and highlights of this trip, around Nepal largest lake Rara, far north west of lesser known high peaks Api and Shaipal , dramatic variation from sub-tropic, Mediterranean to alpine climatic zone, daily amazing views of snow capped mountains, visiting the old ruin kingdom of Malla period at Sinja, fascinating traditional mid hills villages of Thakuri Chettries Bhotia’s & Magar tribes crossing of high scenic pass of Ghurchi Lagna, on this least explored area by trekkers.
Rara lake Trekking is situated in the Far North West beneath the hidden peaks of stunning Api and Shaipal of above 7,000 meters high, the remote and isolated area where early kingdom of Mall regime started in the early 6th Century on wards. Rara trek offers fantastic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8,167m-26,795 ft) Api and Saiphal, Kagmara Himal, Kanjibroba, peaks of high Himalaya and more mid and west Himalaya range of mountains from Annapurna to Manaslu range on flight to and from Nepalgunj. This fascinating adventure Rara lake trekking starts with a scenic 50 minutes flight to Nepal Far South West at Nepalgunj city, located close to India border of UP in the subtropical climate, from this city another short sweeping flight to begin this adventure to Jumla, and then on the journey leading to most fascinating scenery around Lake Rara and high passes on the quiet and peaceful trail, Jumla the main headquarter town of whole Jumla region, and this journey leads to the border of another mountain district of Mugu also.
Journey leads from Jumla to town heading north passing interesting villages and heavily cultivated farms with amphitheater of terraces, trekking through beautiful enchanting woodlands of rhododendron, spruce, maples, oaks, pines and fir trees to reach at Rara National Park including Lake Rara,
actually lies in Mugu district with a small area within Jumla of Karnali Zone. This is Nepal smallest park with largest lake of 10.8 sq kms and 2,990 meters high.
This beautiful lake surrounded with heavily woodland, and home to many wild life and exotic birds an ideal habitat for musk deer. Other animals found in the park include Himalayan black bear, leopard, goral, Himalayan Thar and wild boar and in the lake snow trout is the only fish species recorded in the lake. Resident Gallinaceous birds and migrant waterfowl are also quite commonly sighted in this area.The great – crested grebe, black-necked grebe, and red-crested pochard are seen during winter. Other common birds are the snow cock, chukor partridge, Impeyan pheasant “Danfe” National bird of Nepal, kalij pheasant and blood pheasant.
After a time here with rest day to explore this awesome heavenly scenic place, return journey leads to another high route of above 3,460 meters at Ghurchi Lagna pass in the alpine forested area on the high hills with tremendous views of snow capped mountain, rolling hills and valley. Slowly this great trek concludes back at Jumla for the flight back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj city.
Our representative will come to the airport for transfer to the Hotel. After some refreshment in the hotel, Our Tour leader will make pre departure meeting in the Hotel or at our office. The meeting will cover trip related information & the collecting your Documents (passport copy, 2 passport size photos, Travel insurance).
Morning after breakfast as time set for the sightseeing tour, our city guide will lead you for few hours in our fascinating heritage and cultural tour around places of interest, tour of holy Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) & monasteries, old historical Palaces, courtyard; and then back to hotel after the wonderful tour, afternoon transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for 50 minutes of scenic flight to Far South West of Nepal at Nepalgunj city, a transit place for another flight to Jumla region, the place around here are warm with sub tropical temperature, located close to UP border of India. During flight a panorama vista with chain of snow capped peaks starting from Kathmandu all the way to Nepalgunj.
Morning transfer back to Nepalgunj airport for another scenic connecting short flight to Jumla, on reaching Jumla received by our trekking guides and camping crews, Jumla a large hill town and headquarter of Karnali zone,
at present a motor rough road has been built connecting with Nepalgunj and other areas of Karnali, after a refreshing time starting this wonderful trek, on a pleasant path with short up to reach at Charya Chaur village after walking past nice farm villages, first overnight camping at Charya Chaur a neat pretty small farm village.
After a first day nice pleasant walk to this nice village, morning starts leading to an uphill into pristine forest of rhododendron, birch and pine trees and then towards a green hill top a small pass known as Jaljala bhanjyang with wonderful vista of Kanjiroba Himal. Trek continues into serene cool wilderness on the downhill for few hours to reach a summer pasture for overnight camp, in this lovely area of grassy field in the middle of nowhere.
Morning starts descending to Sinja area for few hours following Jaljala Khola (stream) downstream into forested area of dense pine woodland and then walk leads past row of farm terraced to reach at Sinja village (this was an old kingdom during Malla era), one can notice very old ruin temples and monuments, ancient sculptured stones now covered in thick moss and weeds, and from here walk follows a river upstream to a small village of Ganj, after a nice break continue walk through an interesting gorge to overnight camp at Botan village, late afternoon with time for short walk around.
After continues every day steady walk, today a short walk for few hours to Ghorsain close to the entrance of Rara National Park, morning walk on leaving Sinja Khola to follow another stream of Ghatte Khola heading further north, and then a short climb uphill arriving at lovely little valley with farmlands and an interesting primitive water mills for grinding corns, wheat’s into fine flour to bake breads, from here to our overnight camp at Ghorrasain as this trek reaches near to our destination on the rim of Rara National Park with a small police post, after lunch free at leisure for short walk or just relax and catch up with the dairy.
Today finally walk leads to our long awaited highlight and destination of this marvelous journey to Nepal’s largest lake Rara, morning walk starts into a peaceful environment from this nice camp of Ghorasain, then heading uphill with a climb to Chuchemara Danda at about 4, 260 meters top, after reaching ridge, offering great scenery of surrounding beautiful country landscapes and magnificent views of snow capped mountains towards north, after enjoying marvelous views of surrounding countryside, walk leads downhill through forest of bamboo and birch trees, crossing Khatyar Khola upstream to reach our destination at Rara Lake after a good of 5-6 hours. Around this lake there is few lodge and guest built by the Park and village community for visitors.
An ideal spot for rest day, with leisure morning explore this beautiful area where trekkers and foreigner seldom visits this place due to its remoteness, optional hike and visit a wooden tower platform for better views of Rara Lake with surrounding rolling green hills and snow capped mountains.
After a most enjoyable and relaxing time at Lake Rara, morning return journey to Jumla leads via an alternative high route, starting the morning walk to a ridge top at Jhyari with a small farm village, from here trek leads to follow Jhyari Bira Khola downstream for a short while and then crossing Dhauligar Khola valley, following the trail towards our overnight camp at Pina another nice small farm village and a police post with few moderate size houses serving as lodge, tea shops.
Our morning walks towards uphill climb into serene woodland with gorgeous views of landscapes, mountains, climb continues for last hour to reach at Ghurchi- Lagna pass the highest point of this fantastic trekking, the top marked with Buddhist monuments of chorten and prayer flags, from here walk descends across nice grassy meadow and pasture fields into walnut groves heading to a steep and narrow valley to overnight camp in Chauta village, a small place with few shops, lodge for locals and trekkers.
After a pleasant and interesting time at Chauta village, morning walk continues following Sinja khola to Bumra village with small lodge, tea-shops, health post, from here walk leads past under a overhanging rock at Kamra, this is a source of an important herbal medicinal mineral called as Silaji. From here walk leads to a long descend to Sinja Khola, and walking past Nyawre village, with a refreshing stop walk continues following the river upstreams and with a final 600 meters climb of the day to reach at Tharamara for overnight camp in the beautiful field and a summer pasture.
Today the last leg of this incredible journey to Jumla, morning starts on a long downhill slope to reach a wonderful green valley with alpine woodland lined with rhododendron, oaks and pines trees, after leaving the forested area back into fertile farm land with well tended terraces, walk leads past several smaller villages of Padmara and then following same river for sometime as the walk leads finally at Jumla town for last overnight in this high hills of far west Nepal. In Jumla with time to organize a farewell dinner with some gratitude to fellow trekking crews and porters, as they will be leaving for Kathmandu by overland taking at least 2-3 days of journey.
Good bye! to all the trekking crews, guides and loyal good porters including the people of this fascinating Jumla and Mugu.. Morning walk to an air filed for a short scenic flight to Nepalgunj, at Nepalgunj with time to refresh in this warm area, afternoon or late morning catch another flight back to Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels, after a most unimaginable journey Around Lake Rara with great service of Trexmount Ventures and wonderful crews.
After morning breakfast, free day for trek preparation. OR, you can do sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley with visiting into fascinating heritage and cultural sites. There are few places that are worth to visit such as holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Durbar Squire ( One is in Kathmandu, in patan and also in Bhaktapur), Museum, monasteries, old historical Palaces and Gardens. Note: this tour is optional so you can visit with place of your interest & pay locally.
Breakfast, transfer to Tribhuvan International airport for departing from Nepal.
