Overview

Rara Lake Trekking takes place in the far northwest, behind the hidden peaks of Api and Shaipal, both over 7,000 meters high. In a remote and secluded territory, the early Mall kingdom began in the early sixth century. On the flight to and from Nepalgunj, the Rara hike gives spectacular views of Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8,167m-26,795 ft), Api and Saiphal, Kagmara Himal, Kanjibroba, peaks of the high Himalaya, and more mid and west Himalaya range of ranges from Annapurna to Manaslu range.

This enchanting Rara Lake trekking adventure begins with a scenic 50-minute flight to the far southwest of Nepal. Similarly,  in the town of Nepaljung, located near the Indian border of UP in the subtropical climate. Likewise, on a journey to Jumla and to the high pass of the most fascinating landscapes.

And calm and peaceful paths around Lake Rara, Jumla is the headquarters of the entire Jumla region. Which also connects to the borders of another mountainous region. Also, visit Mugu.

Moreover, the journey leads from Jumla to town, passing through interesting villages and heavily cultivated farms with amphitheaters or terraces, trekking through beautiful enchanting woodlands of rhododendron, spruce, maples, oaks, pines, and fir trees to reach Rara National Park.

Which is located in the Mugu district with a small area within Jumla of Karnali Zone. And includes Lake Rara. Furthermore, this is Nepal’s smallest park, with the main lake measuring 10.8 square kilometers and rising to 2,990 meters.

Similarly, this lovely lake, surrounded by dense forest and home to a variety of wild species and unusual birds, is a great habitat for musk deer. Himalayan black bear, leopard, goral, Himalayan Thar.  Likewise, the snow cock, chukor partridge, Impeyan pheasant “Danfe” National bird of Nepal, kalij pheasant, and blood pheasant are all frequent birds.

After spending some time here with a break day to explore this amazing heavenly picturesque location. Continue to Ghurchi Lagna’s pass in the alpine forested area on the high hills. With spectacular views of snow-capped mountains, rolling hills, and valleys. Slowly, this fantastic trip comes to an end in Jumla, where you’ll catch a flight back to Kathmandu through Nepalgunj City.

Rara Lake Trekking is one of the most scenic hikes in Nepal, taking you to Rara Lake. It is one of Nepal’s largest lakes. Thousands of travelers from all around the world visit the lake each year.

Rara Lake has a surface area of 10.8 km square and is located at an elevation of 2,990 meters. It is a fantastic trekking destination because it is bordered by verdant hills and Rara National Park.

Rara Lake is also enhanced by the view of snow-capped Himalayan peaks. This fascinating journey to Rara Lake takes place in Nepal’s far northwest. The walk begins in a bustling capital city and ends in the secluded Jumla region.

Enrooted will take you through the intriguing villages of Gorusingha, Sija, and Jaljala before ending at the serene Rara Lake. Rara Lake Trek is also located in Rara National Park, which is one of the most fascinating national parks to visit for wildlife viewing.

Several blue pines, black juniper, oak, cypress, and rhododendron forests may be found in the national park. Himalayan Black Bears, Musk Deer, Leopards, Ghoral, Thar, and Red Pandas have all been seen in these forests. More than 200 kinds of beautiful birds and butterflies call these forests home.

Itinerary

01Day

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Our representative will come to the airport for transfer to the Hotel. After some refreshment in the hotel, Our Tour leader will make pre departure meeting in the Hotel or at our office. The meeting will cover trip-related information & collecting your Documents (passport copy, 2 passport size photos, Travel insurance).

02Day

In Kathmandu with morning tour and fly to Nepalgunj.

The morning after breakfast as the time set for the sightseeing tour, our city guide will lead you for a few hours on our fascinating heritage and cultural tour around places of interest, a tour of the holy Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) & monasteries, old historical Palaces, courtyard; and then back to the hotel after the wonderful tour, afternoon transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for 50 minutes of scenic flight to Far South West of Nepal at Nepalgunj city, a transit place for another flight to Jumla region, the place around here is warm with sub-tropical temperature, located close to UP border of India.

During the flight, a panorama vista with a chain of snow-capped peaks starting from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj.

03Day

Fly to Jumla (2,370 m-7,775 ft) trek to Charya Chaur (2,800 m-9,186 ft) - 04 hrs.

Morning transfer back to Nepalgunj airport for another scenic connecting short flight to Jumla, on reaching Jumla received by our trekking guides and camping crews, Jumla is a large hill town and headquarters of Karnali zone, at present, a motor rough road has been built connecting with Nepalgunj and other areas of Karnali, after a refreshing time starting this wonderful trek, on a pleasant path with short up to reach at Charya Chaur village after walking past nice farm villages, first overnight camping at Charya Chaur a neat pretty small farm village.

04Day

Trek on route Botan camp beneath unnamed pass (3,500 m-11,482 ft).

After a first day nice pleasant walk to this nice village, the morning starts leading to an uphill into the pristine forest of rhododendron, birch, and pine trees and then towards a green hilltop a small pass known as Jaljala bhanjyang with a wonderful vista of Kanjiroba Himal. Trek continues into the serene cool wilderness downhill for a few hours to reach a summer pasture for overnight camp, in this lovely area of a grassy field in the middle of nowhere.

05Day

Trek to Botan (2, 680 m-8,792 ft) via Sinja Khola (2,440 m-8,005 ft) - 06 hrs.

The morning starts descending to the Sinja area for a few hours following Jaljala Khola (stream) downstream into the forested area of dense pine woodland and then the walk leads a past row of farms terraced to reach Sinja village (this was an old kingdom during the Malla era), one can notice very old ruin temples and monuments, ancient sculptured stones now covered in thick moss and weeds, and from here the walk follows a river upstream to a small village of Ganj after a nice break continue to walk through an interesting gorge to overnight camp at Botan village, late afternoon with time for a short walk around.

06Day

Trek to Ghorasain (3,190 m-10,466 ft) - 04 hrs.

After continuing every day steady walk, today a short walk for a few hours to Ghorsain close to the entrance of Rara National Park, a morning walk on leaving Sinja Khola to follow another stream of Ghatte Khola heading further north, and then a short climb uphill arriving at the lovely little valley with farmlands and an interesting primitive water mills for grinding corns, wheat’s into a fine flour to bake bread, from here to our overnight camp at Ghorrasain as this trek reaches near to our destination on the rim of Rara National Park with a small police post, after lunch free at leisure for a short walk or just relax and catch up with the dairy.

07Day

Trek to Rara Lake (2,980 m-9,776 ft) - 06 hrs.

Today’s final walk leads to our long-awaited highlight and destination of this marvelous journey to Nepal’s largest lake Rara, The morning walk starts in a peaceful environment from this nice camp of Ghorasain, then heads uphill with a climb to Chuchemara Danda at about 4, 260 meters top, after reaching the ridge, offering great scenery of surrounding beautiful country landscapes and magnificent views of snow-capped mountains towards north, after enjoying marvelous views of the surrounding countryside, walk leads downhill through forest of bamboo and birch trees, crossing Khatyar Khola upstream to reach our destination at Rara Lake after a good of 5-6 hours. Around this lake, there is a few lodge and guest built by the Park and village community for visitors.

08Day

Rest day for excursion around the lake.

An ideal spot for a rest day, with a leisure morning, explore this beautiful area where trekkers and foreigners seldom visit this place due to its remoteness, optional hike and visit a wooden tower platform for better views of Rara Lake with surrounding rolling green hills and snow-capped mountains.

09Day

Trek to Pina via Jhyari (2,580 m-8,464 ft) - 05 hrs.

After a most enjoyable and relaxing time at Lake Rara, the morning return journey to Jumla leads via an alternative high route, starting the morning walk to a ridge top at Jhyari with a small farm village, from here trek leads to follow Jhyari Bira Khola downstream for a short while and then crossing Dhauligar Khola valley, following the trail towards our overnight camp at Pina another nice small farm village and a police post with few moderate size houses serving as a lodge, tea shops.

10Day

Trek to Chauta (2,770 m-9,087 ft) via Ghurchi-Lagna (3,460 m-11,351 ft) - 06 hrs.

Our morning walks towards uphill climb into serene woodland with gorgeous views of landscapes, mountains, climb continues for last hour to reach Ghurchi- Lagna pass the highest point of this fantastic trekking, the top marked with Buddhist monuments of Chorten and prayer flags, from here walk descends across nice grassy meadow and pasture fields into walnut groves heading to a steep and narrow valley to overnight camp in Chauta village, a small place with few shops, lodge for locals and trekkers.

11Day

Trek to Tharamara (3,270 m- 10,728 ft) - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant and interesting time at Chauta village, the morning walk continues following Sinja Khola to Burma village with the small lodge, tea shops, and health post, from here walk leads past an overhanging rock at Kamra, which is a source of an important herbal medicinal mineral called as Sivaji.

From here walk leads to a long descent to Sinja Khola, and walking past Nyawre village, with a refreshing stop walk continues following the river upstreams and with a final 600 meters climb of the day to reach Tharamara for an overnight camp in the beautiful field and a summer pasture.

12Day

Trek back to Jumla (2,514 m-8,248 ft) - 06 hrs.

Today the last leg of this incredible journey to Jumla, the morning starts on a long downhill slope to reach a wonderful green valley with alpine woodland lined with rhododendrons, oaks, and pines trees, after leaving the forested area back into fertile farmland with well-tended terraces, walk leads past several smaller villages of Padmara and then following the same river for some time as the walk leads finally at Jumla town for last overnight in this high hills of far west Nepal.

In Jumla with time to organize a farewell dinner with some gratitude to fellow trekking crews and porters, as they will be leaving for Kathmandu overland taking at least 2-3 days of the journey.

13Day

Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj and transfer to hotel.

Goodbye! to all the trekking crews, guides, and loyal good porters including the people of this fascinating Jumla and Mugu. Morning walks to an airfield for a short scenic flight to Nepalgunj, at Nepalgunj with time to refresh in this warm area, afternoon or late morning catch another flight back to Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels, after a most unimaginable journey Around Lake Rara with great service of Trexmount Ventures and wonderful crews.

14Day

Kathmandu: Free day or City Sightseeing (pay Locally for sightseeing).

After morning breakfast, free day for trek preparation. OR, you can do a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley with a visit to the fascinating heritage and cultural sites.

A few places are worth visiting such as the holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Durbar Squire ( One is in Kathmandu, in Patan, and also in Bhaktapur), Museum,  monasteries, old historical Palaces, and Gardens. Note:  this tour is optional so you can visit with place of your interest & pay locally.

15Day

Departure

Breakfast, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for departing from Nepal.
